As I sit here and write this piece for the New York Knicks fans to read many thoughts cross my mind. It's not often that the Knicks, especially after the whole Isiah Thomas debacle, are in this great of a position to improve their team with a player(s) of high significance that will give the team an Icon since the days of Patrick Ewing. But putting all your eggs in one basket while letting a solid basketball player like David Lee most likely go I do not agree with. General Manager Donnie Walsh has done a terrific job of turning the mistakes that Thomas made into a great opportunity to go after some key free agents, but don't let the job that is ahead of Walsh fool you. He still has a lot more to do. The Knicks and Walsh are banking that LeBron James will come to New York without listening to other offers thinking the big market exposure is something that James craves. Could be true, but it could also be false as well. If the Knicks basically want no one other then James it could then turn around and bite them where the sun doesn't shine. There are a lot of great free agents out there next to James in Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Rudy Gay and more. But the question I would love to ask Walsh is if James will turn around the entire funk that the Knicks are in and bring them a championship.. by himself! Because that is what is going to happen. Would you rather bring in one super key free agent or bring in a couple that will help out from the very beginning. James cannot get the job done by himself which has been proven time and time again in Cleveland. Even though he has some solid supporters around him in Zydrunas Ilgauskas and others, he is basically carrying the Cavaliers on his back by himself. Is it really worth losing a player of David Lee's poise and stature to put all of their efforts in LeBron who could basically turn around and re-sign with the Cavaliers or some where else in the league? By that time, Wade and company may have already signed else where. Then where do you go from here Donnie? As much as I love James, look else where. Lee is a great player who does everything that is asked of him. He can score, hes a beast on the boards, he can pass and much better than all, he can lead. Get the guy a pure, dominant center and a point guard who can push a team and let's see the kind of damage Lee can do. If some how you can swing getting LeBron and still be able to keep Lee... well then my friend, you will be the best General Manager in New York Knicks history. But please.... do not sell our souls for a #23 jersey. The Knicks fans deserve better.
