The New York Rangers are reportedly close to sending wingers Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins to the Calgary Flames for center Olli Jokinen and winger Brandon Prust. The trade call is unlikely for tonight as Calgary is holding up the deal now according to Darren Dreger of TSN via Twitter. This would be an intelligent trade for the Rangers as it clears cap space. Kotalik is due another $6 million over the next two years and Olli Jokinen, making $5+ million, is an unrestricted free agent after the season. It's not everyday Rangers fans get to give a pat on the back to Glen Sather who draws more ire than celebration, but if this deal goes through without giving up any pieces of the future than it will definitely be a winning deal for the Blueshirts. Â UPDATE: Bob McKenzie of TSN has just reported the deal may not happen at all now for various reasons. Ales Kotalik has a no movement clause in his contract and the Flames are a team that is not on his list. Also, Calgary is holding the trade back from their end as they would like to use Olli Jokinen tonight versus the Philadelphia Flyers. The trade could very well be resurrected after the game, but one must think Kotalik will end up else where if he does not want to go to Calgary.
