The much talked about trade between the New York Rangers and the Calgary Flames has FINALLY gone through. At 12:40am EST it was announced that the Rangers have acquired center Olli Jokinen and forward Brandon Prust from the Flames for disgruntled forward Ales Kotalik and forward Christopher Higgins. Kotalik who has been in the Rangers doghouse for quite some time now, is due $6 million over the next 2 seasons. Higgins is a free agent after this season. The trade is a smart move by GM Glen Sather. Landing Olli Jokinen, who is a free agent also after the season, and forward Brandon Prust helps clear up cap space for the Blueshirts come next season. Prust will be an instant fan favorite in New York for his willingness to drop the gloves and protect his teammates. Jokinen can be an explosive player, and alongside start winger Marian Gaborik, it could look like the Rangers have finally found their number one center for the rest of the season.
