The New Jersey Devils have acquired scoring star Ilya Kovalchuk from the Atlanta Thrashers.

Kovalchuk turned down a 12 year, $101 million deal from the Thrashers earlier which would have made him the highest paid hockey player in the history of the National Hockey League.

Headig to Atlanta are defensemen Johnny Oduya,  forwards Niclas Bergfors and Patrice Cormier and a 1st round draft pick.

New Jersey also acquires defensemen Anssi Salmela.
